Andropause or Low T

Andropause is the stage in a man’s life when his Gonad glands begin to progressively lose activity. When these glands cease to function, they begin to stop producing testosterone, the male gonadal steroids that give men their characteristic ability to build muscle and gain strength. Testosterone also helps in maintaining strong bone density.

With the progressive lack of testosterone production, low testosterone symptoms begin to show up. For instance, bones begin to deteriorate, libido can decline, skin begins to wrinkle, and circulation problems can occur. In some cases, frequent headaches, night sweats, and psychological effects like anxiety, irritability, and depression have also been noticed. These are common symptoms of low testosterone.

Most commonly, the natural process of aging is what causes low testosterone. Andropause occurs naturally to most men between 40 to 50 years of age. Unfortunately, it is a very little talked about issue compared to menopause, which is practically the same process but in women, possibly because men do not like to talk about their weaknesses, especially about topics such as erectile dysfunction symptoms. However, as men age, this is a normal phase of life.  It is important to speak to doctors about things like the symptoms of low testosterone.

Although andropause starts at mature adulthood, testosterone levels in men begin to decline after 30 years of age, though in small measure. As time passes, testosterone levels continue to decrease.  When testosterone levels have fallen severely, many of the symptoms of low t listed below are likely to be observed:

  • The muscles become thinner and flaccid
  • Fatigue becoming more pronounced
  • Skin and hair tend to dry out and become weak, wrinkles appear
  • Genital hair begins to disappear
  • Problems of circulation that produces cold feet and hands, low tolerance to the cold
  • Low sexual performance, decreased libido
  • Emotional problems such as depression, isolation, and irritability
  • Sweating, digestive constipation, tingling in hands and feet

Low testosterone treatment is important and includes supplementing the body’s natural testosterone. It is injected or applied on the skin. For that, you need to see your doctor to get the most appropriate treatment for each symptom and their relevant indications.

In this stage of life, it is highly recommended to start a lifestyle away from stress. It is also important to maintain relationships and to feel supported by the people closest to you like your spouse, children, and friends who are also going through this stage of life.

If you think you may be suffering from the symptoms of andropause, seeking professional medical help is critical. Only licensed medical professionals can prescribe low testosterone treatments.
