DOES DRINKING CAUSE ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION?
There are many studies that say moderate drinking can help improve a man’s sexual performance in bed.
Well, the word that is most relevant over here is ‘moderate,’ because if you cross your limit alcohol could take a toll on your sexual performance and be a reason for your dwindling relationship. There are studies that say alcohol dependence could be a root cause of various sexual dysfunctions like premature ejaculation, and problems with erection, among other problems. Erectile dysfunction which is denoted as the inability to hold on to an erection during sexual intercourse could also be an outcome of alcohol abuse.
A study published in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry pointed out that sexual dysfunction is common in patients with alcohol dependence. Of the 100 men taken into consideration for a study, seventy-two percent had one or more sexual dysfunctions, the most common being premature ejaculation, low sexual desire, and erectile dysfunction. The amount of alcohol consumed appeared to be the most significant predictor of developing sexual dysfunction.
The study concluded that erectile failure in alcoholic men is very common, significantly higher in men consuming more than three standard units of alcohol (12 g ethanol) daily. It reported that 61 % of patients dependent on alcohol reported sexual dysfunction, the most common being erectile dysfunction followed by reduced sexual desire. Erectile dysfunction and reduced sexual desire were frequently seen to be coexisting.
If you are a moderate or social drinker we aren’t telling you to give up alcohol immediately but watch what you drink.
If it is a daily habit and you are having more than three drinks are day, it is time you check your drinking habit for your own good.
